Final Verdict: 3/5
Aesthetics: 3/5
Difficulty: 3/5

Simply Soft is another yarn that tends to be absolutely everywhere. I picked it up when I first started knitting for two reasons, it was soft and it was inexpensive. Despite the massive color options available and the price, this yarn is just fairly, meh.

On the shelf, this yarn tends to look really pretty. There are a wide variety of colors, even in brick and mortar stores making this yarn attractive for large projects that need a good deal of colors. There are 57 colorways in all ranging from soft pastels to deep, dark bolds. The wealth of colors is really one of the best points about this yarn.

However, once you start working with this yarn, that shine sort of disappears and it doesn’t look drastically different from your standard yarn types. It remains soft but it also gets a bit fuzzy as you work so your piece does not come out looking as clean as it should.

Caron Simply Soft worked

If you’re at least an advanced beginner than this yarn shouldn’t be too difficult to work with but it still isn’t the easiest to use. After a little bit, it starts to feel a bit uncomfortable as you work it. It’s a strange sensation, almost a little sticky.

This yarn also has a bit of a problem with splitting so you must be careful while working your stiches. I have never had an issue with knotting or weak spots with this yarn, however, a close friend of mine purchased three skeins that were full of knots. The upside is that the company replaced the yarn at no cost to her. Still, it is something to be wary of.

Final Thoughts

Simply Soft looks stunning on the shelf but when it comes to working, it fails to live up to expectations. Its low price make it a good choice for some projects and if you can deal with the flaws, you would likly end up making some really nice pieces. But you have to make it through the issues that the yarn has first. I would likely just skip purchasing this and go for a standard yarn.

    1. Different yarns work diffrently for different people! With yarns in this price range, picking up a skein to try out isn’t too much of a sacrifice.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I appreciate it 🙂
